What Are WEY Water Control Gates?
Water control gates — sluice gates — are sliding closure systems used in open channels and large-section water structures to shut off, divert or regulate flow. What separates them from a valve is scale and geometry: they close a wide opening rather than a pressurised pipe, and normally operate embedded in a concrete structure or channel wall.
Applications
- Waste water treatment plants: basin inlets and outlets, bypass channels, sludge channels, isolating a basin for maintenance.
- Drinking water plants: transfers between settlement and filter basins.
- Irrigation and water structures: channel distribution, level control, flood gates.
- Industrial plants: cooling water channels and discharge lines.
- Power generation: intake structures and discharge channels.
Type Selection: Which WEY Gate for Which Duty?
Sluice Gate
The core type: a gate travelling vertically within a frame to close an opening in a channel or basin wall. The WEY SLUICE GATE series is built for this duty.
Pit Sluice Gate
Mounted to a frame embedded in concrete and generally working against water pressure from one side; the WEY PIT SLUICE GATE series targets this application.
Stop Gates and Stop Logs
These are not for continuous operation but for temporary isolation during maintenance. The WEY STOP GATE and WEY STOP LOG series make it possible to work without draining the structure.
Hand-Operated Gates
For infrequently used points where no power is available, the WEY HAND STOP series applies.
Why Stainless Steel?
Water control gates spend their service life in a wet–dry cycle, very often in corrosive waste water. Painted carbon steel depends entirely on coating integrity in that environment; corrosion starts at the first scratch. A stainless steel gate and frame removes that maintenance burden from the outset — decisive in embedded installations that are hard to reach.
Information Needed for Design
| Information | What it determines |
|---|---|
| Opening size (width × height) | Gate and frame dimensioning |
| Water column height | Structural calculation and sealing class |
| Pressure direction | Unidirectional or bidirectional sealing? |
| Mounting arrangement | Wall-mounted, in-channel or cast into concrete |
| Actuation | Handwheel, electric actuator or hydraulic |
Built to Project Specification
WEY water control gates are not standard shelf items; dimensions, sealing class and actuation are defined project by project. As the official authorised distributor for WEY valves, Linder works directly with the manufacturer and handles the process from site measurement through manufacture to commissioning. Share your structural dimensions and operating conditions and we will define the right solution with you.
