What Is a WEY Knife Gate Valve, and Where Is It Used?
A knife gate valve closes a line with a blade-shaped gate that travels perpendicular to the flow. The sharpened edge cuts through solids that have settled in the pipe — it keeps working where a conventional gate valve would jam.
That makes the WEY knife gate valve the valve of difficult media rather than clean water:
- Waste water and treatment: post-screen lines, sludge transfer, digester outlets.
- Mining and ore processing: abrasive slurry, flotation circuits.
- Pulp and paper: stock lines, washing and screening stages.
- Food, grain and feed: silo outlets carrying powder, granulate and kernels.

Series Selection: Which WEY Valve for Which Duty?
The WEY valve family does not offer a single "fits everything" valve; each series answers a specific problem. Every series below is supplied directly through Linder as the official authorised distributor.
General Purpose and Unidirectional Sealing
The VN and W series are the balanced choice for standard waste water and industrial duties — the first option on medium-pressure lines that need unidirectional sealing.
Bidirectional and High Pressure
Where flow must be shut off in both directions, the DB and DP series apply. As differential pressure rises, the HD and MH series bring a reinforced body and gate structure.
Abrasive and Solids-Heavy Media
The MG, MF and SG series are designed for lines with a high solids load. The HSI series targets explosive atmospheres and special process conditions.
Full Bore and Special Applications
The FB series minimises pressure loss with its full bore design. The VG series serves biogas lines, the TI3 series isolation duty, while the VK, VL, VM and VS series cover different sealing and durability combinations.

WEY Valve Maintenance and Service Life
On a WEY knife gate valve the wearing parts are usually the seat and the packing; the body lasts far longer.
